Laser gingivectomy: healthy gums without a scalpel, bleeding or stitches

The patient came in with marked gingival inflammation in the lower arch. It was not only a question of colour or hygiene: the gums were enlarged, with excess tissue, and that made the smile look heavier and less defined.

The plan was to treat the problem conservatively and precisely: a laser gingivectomy to reshape the gum tissue, and periodontal cleaning combining laser with ultrasound. The goal was not to "trim for the sake of trimming", but to give the gum a healthier, cleaner and more harmonious architecture.

The difference this technique makes is significant. The laser works by ablation, allowing tissue to be removed with great precision while also supporting faster recovery. By not using a scalpel, the procedure reduces bleeding, avoids stitches and tends to produce fewer post-operative symptoms.

It was then complemented with ultrasound to remove plaque, calculus and irritants that were sustaining the inflammation. That combination is key: the laser improves the handling of soft tissue, but the deep cleaning eliminates the cause keeping the gum inflamed.

The result shows a less inflamed gum, with a better contour and a visually more organised smile. Technology applied with clinical judgment: less trauma, more precision and faster healing.
